'Java' is a part of Jonathan Rachman x Patricia Nurchandra Designs trans-continental collaborative collection titled 'The Story Collection'.
'Java' draws inspiration from the island of Java in Indonesia, which holds a strong childhood memory to both Jonathan and Patricia as children living in a region filled with rich and diverse arts & culture which would later shape their work as designers.
Inspired by the rich traditions of Javanese culture, 'Java' introduces the region's most pivotal cultural elements, from the carved wooden pair of Javanese matrimonial figures, 'Loro Blonyo' (the 'Inseparable Couple') which often seen as symbols of love, good fortune, and harmony; the Gunungan - a conical or triangular structure shape (tapered peak) used as one of the region's batik motifs which depicts the universe and the life in it; to Borobudur - the largest Buddhist temple in the world and a UNESCO'S World Heritage Site.
